Zero does not count as a remainder because it indicates exact division
without any part left over. Zero as a remainder is no remainder.
When dividing by 5 the greatest remainder you can have is 4
When dividing by n the greatest remainder you can have is n - 1
When dividing by 2 the greatest remainder you can have is 1
It is also the lowest remainder because it is the only one.
All odd numbers have remainder 1 when divided by 2.
All even numbers are exactly divisible by 2 and so there is no remainder.

A *reminder* is something that causes you to remember something. A *remainder* is a portion or amount that is left. You wanted to say *remainder*, not *reminder*.
In general, when you are dividing by a positive integer N, the largest remainder you can have is N-1.
If you end up with N (or higher) then you could still take out one more portion of N and reduce the remainder.
The only remainders when dividing by 2 are 0 or 1, with 1 being the greatest possible remainder.
Examples:
4/2 = 2 r 0
5/2 = 2 r 1
6/2 = 3 r 0
7/2 = 3 r 1
You get a remainder of 1 when you start with an odd number. You get a remainder of 0 when dividing an even number.
Answer:
1 is the greatest possible remainder when dividing by 2.
(2 is the greatest possible remainder when dividing by 3.)
(3 is the greatest possible remainder when dividing by 4.)
(N-1 is the greatest possible remainder when dividing by N.)

You have a reminder when you get down to a number from which you can no long extract "2". The only number(s) that is possible for are 1 and 0. However if you have 0 you do not have a reminder. So the ONLY reminder you could get when dividing by 2 is "1". It would be both the highest and the lowest.

When dividing by 2, the only two options for a remainder is 0 and 1.
If you end up with a remainder of 2 that means you didn't divide properly and it should have a remainder of 0.
So the highest remainder when dividing by 2 is 1.
