NYC has restaurants representing dozens of ethnicities as well as standard "American" food.  You should indicate whether you prefer Cantonese or Szechuan, Afghan or Peruvian, steakhouses or pizzerias, Japanese or Mexican (Los Mariachis in Flatbush).  For steak, O. Henry's in the Village.  For scrumptious desserts Green Tree Hungarian in Morningside Heights.  For Italian Joe & Pat's on Staten Island.
