How do I know if I have a hernia or if it is something else?

To officially diagnose a hernia, you must see a doctor. A doctor will do a physical exam in order to assess the levels of pain and discomfort, the area in which these symptoms are occurring, and any additional symptoms you may be feeling such as nausea, vomiting and more. You should not try to self-diagnose a hernia. If a hernia remains undiagnosed, severe complications can arise if there is no medical intervention at the appropriate time.
