Does big and fat mean the same thing ?

    Not always.

    You can be big because you’re fat.

    But you could also be big because you’re muscular.

    Big = of considerable size, extent, or intensity: (not necessarily due to excess fat)

    Fat = (of a person or animal) having a large amount of excess flesh


    A fat person could also be referred to as "big", but not all big people are fat.

    Not at all.   Big is a synonym of large.

    Fat is a fantastic way of storing excess calories on an animal.

    Some people use the kinder euphemism "big" when they mean fat, but of course a big man is not necessarily also a fat man. (Think Idris Elba or Jason Momoa.) And a man can be fat when nobody would call him big, i.e., Jack Black or James Corden.

    Big can also mean something that is of abnormal size and height... but isnt necessarily fat.
