What happens when tension arises between two people, and there's no escape?

Two roommates living in the same apartment.

A boyfriend / girlfriend living together.

Two co-workers in an office , whom work eight hour

shifts together, five days a week.

Tension is building , and it's inconvenient or  impractical for one or the other to leave or dismiss themselves from the situation.

How often do things become physical, leading to someone getting hurt?

All of those situations are escapable.  Inconvenient, but escapable.  Mature people work together to resolve their conflicts or work to find a compromise or physically separate.  Immature people or those who do not know how to overcome conflict, sometimes do resort to violence as a method of solving their problems, but society has a special place for those people to live so the rest of us can live peacefully together.  How often?  Statistics are not kept on how often, thus impossible to answer.

A good working (or room mate) relationship doesn't require that the two people agree on everything. Only that the two people agree on how to deal with disagreement, that the two people agree that heated argument is unacceptable, that getting physical is REALLY unacceptable. If both people agree that certain behaviors (screaming, getting physical, mocking, insulting family members) are totally unacceptable then those behaviors won't happen.

What happens depends on the people and the circumstances, and there is no way therefore to tell you what happens in general or how often violence results.

The people involved have to rely on the evolved & emotionally mature part of their brain instead of the primitive impulsive part that would happily compel them to launch themselves across the room & rip the other persons nuts off
