    Macronutrients:- protein, carbs and fat

Micronutrients: vitamins, minerals [eg calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphates,  sodium, iron, amongst others]

Macronutrients are required for body building, renewal and energy [measured in calories or joules]

Micronutrients are required to ensure proper functioning of the body and the absorbation of macronutrients. They are only required in small amounts which may vary between milligrams to grams a day depending on the micronutrient. Some, whilst essential in these minuscule quantities, become toxic in larger amounts [examples vitamin A, iron and sodium]

Besides macro- and micronutrients, the body also requires water and dietary fibre.
