How could Theodore Roosevelt drink a gallon of coffee a day without dying?
Perhaps it’s just a metaphor?

Half a pint a cup, one cup an hour, sounds about right. Voltaire drank between 40 and 50 cups a day, but presumably proper little coffee cups, and lived into his 80s. Teddy's real problem was having about 100 sugar lumps a day in his coffee.

no he would survive you need at least 40 cups to die and a gallon is equal to 16 cups

I know many people who do that.
