why shouldn't we believe everything we read from the newspapers and media?

I'm sure they got their info from viable sources right?

We shouldn't, especially if it is anything political.  Used to be you could trust the media.. now they are all paid for liars.  Disgusting!

Just fact check them and you will see.

Then check the audience numbers and you will notice that you are not alone in your discovery of the lack of truth.

They profit by keeping you in fear, which is why they hype up anything and everything.

The willfully ignorant cultist rightards who whine about 'fake news' support an orange traitor who has told 20,000 LIES in less than four years.

Such morons are not worthy of any consideration. They only hate the fact that their delusions are not in any supported by reality, so they whine about reality.

That's why they are this ugly:

They don't fact check anymore.  Not really.  If it doesn't meet their bias, then it isn't factual to them.     And then there is the mass editorializing on videos and speeches that takes things out of context to make people look bad.   Then there is also the stories that are just out right lies.

The media has turned in the last decade from reporting the news to influencing the news.

Because all media  will have their own political agenda and love to make a story when there isn't one. The media never let the truth get in the way of a good story. All media sources are biased.

Maybe thirty years ago but for the last 10/15 at least. They have been caught over and over lying to us again and again. In some cases, simply making **** up. A very large number of media. Print, cable, and electronic sites. Admitted to and apologized to us in Dec of 2016, for pushing fake and false news.

The main reason is that journalists these days spin their stories to reflect their personal beliefs and try to get people to believe their way is the correct way.
