Why is sex pleasurable?

Why is the reproduction process so desirable? Having children is a big decision and shouldn’t be something to be sneezed at. Yet humans feel great when they have sex and can’t stop thinking about it. I just think it’s a distraction.

It's nature's way to fool us into reproducing!  Before modern medicine the "natural" child mortality rate was over 40%, yet gestation is more taxing on the human animal than most mammals.  Human babies are born app. nine months developmentally premature compared to other great apes.  Young humans have to be kept alive a long time before they become useful and even longer before reaching reproductive age requiring a huge familial input.  If one calculates on cost alone humans would want to have few offspring, but since our mortality rate was so high nature tricked us into having sex more often so that enough offspring would reach maturity to continue the species.

Well, the individuals who did not like it did not reproduce much
