Can we currently or in the near future makes computers that are much smarter and faster than humans?

Faster yes, smarter, doubtful, since computers are only "as smart" as those that program them

Smarter? Not likely at the moment. "Smart" includes the ability to be self-directing in new circumstances and there is where smart people win most of the time.
On the other hand, if you have ever seen the movie "Idiocracy" then you might think that sometimes even a small computer can think smarter than some of those dunderheads in that movie.

For doing MATH yes. Doing anything else, not likely. They will never have the imagination, creativity, and drive...to do anything. Not in your lifetime.

Some say never: https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/163051-simulat...
Because a computer works on entirely different architecture from the brain. It's accurate to say that they are apples to oranges.

It's already faster than humans. Smarter will still depend on the human programmer's smartness.

In many ways, computers already are faster than humans. But they lack creativity. That’s why computers can defeat a grandmaster chess champion, but they cannot write a beautiful poem.
