What’s the better temporary fix for a slashed convertible hood - gaffer tape or needle and thread?

Get some strong thread that is UV tolerant and a sail maker's needle and sew it up first, tight and strong.   Then you can use tape or  such over it.

    Convertible hood?

You mean convertible top (on a car)?

    Not gaffer tape.

    Not duct tape.

    Not any tape.

Visit a shop that installs automotive convertible tops or a shop that makes tops for boats and talk to them.

I'm sure they would sew it, but it may leak.

    Shoe Goo and gaffer tape.
