I have $50,000 on a prepaid debit card.... can it be lost or stolen?

I don't mean the card but can the $50,000 be lost or stolen in any way?

yes if your personal information is comprised by someone like anything else

Yes.  Some who finds out the card number can pretend to be you and spend the money.  Or someone can clone (copy) the card and withdraw the money at an ATM.

The money might be able to be transferred to another card or into a payment accepting system as a purchase. Yes it is possible the 50K could get moved out of the account. Maybe the prepaid card has fees, and fees eat up the entire value.

What does the card or card agreement say? Does it say to treat it and protect it like cash (like gift cards)? Or does the issuer of the card offer any kind of balance protection?

Any information can be stolen such as a credit card number, a bank account number, etc and fraud can occur even when people are careful.

Sure. Someone with the information on the card can buy things over the internet or pay bills. You’re the only person I’ve ever heard of that had that much cash on a prepaid debit card.
