What kind of dancing happens at prom? Is it as elegant as something on Andre Rieu or Cinderella?

Is there beautiful elegant dancing at a prom? If they let us have a prom next year will I be able to see such elegant dancing in person?

Where would one see elegant dancing?

I don’t think many teenagers know how to ballroom dance. So no you wouldn’t be seeing that at a HS prom.

You would see elegant dancing at ballroom dancing competitions, old movies featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, videos about waltzing, English country (aka contra) dance (such as the dances in  BBC /A&E s version of "Pride and Prejudice"), French minuets and other court dances (Louis XIV was an avid dancer. An old movie about his court or Marie Antoinette should show dancing )

Update: Sexist me.  Among the ballroom dancing ladies in the old movies were Vera Ellen and Ginger Rogers.

The type of dancing that happens at prom is usually either awkward or very sexual.
