With covic-19 cases hitting 9 million+, it most likely seems that the virus is here to stay for some time. but for how long if i may ask?

Covid-19 is this year's version of the same base virus as the 1918 'Spanish flu'. You refer to ALL versions as the seasonal flu.

In other words, like all viruses, it will never go away, but it won't be an issue within a year.

That depends on how long it takes to make a vaccine.

As long as it benefits one political party over the other.

The 1918 pandemic lasted three years, with the second wave killing far more than the first.
