Am i the only person that loves cooked onions, but absolutely detest them raw (unless they are red onions)?

red and other onions taste pretty much the same and I bet a nickle you couldn't taste the difference in a blind taste test.  I love onions raw, cooked, steamed, boiled, baked, fried, pickled, etc, etc. etc. food of the Gods!

mum used to make caramelised onions for dinner-yummo. I don't mind raw onion on a salad sandwich

Not by a long shot.  I know several people who are the same way with onions.  I also know a few with the opposite preference...they'll only eat raw onions.

No, red and white are much better choices for raw use like tacos. Yellow isn't always the best raw but will do. They tend to be less crisp and very sulfurous. But that makes them much better for cooking.

    Me too, me too!!!

**Jumps up and down waving both hands in the air.

I RARELY will ever eat an onion raw, or even cooked but still raw-ish, as in the way chunky onion is in a meatloaf, but OMG one of my favorite things to eat is onion fried in butter and olive oil with some salt and pepper so that it is past being squishy and it is sort of crisp and caramelized but still sort of squishy.(sorry, I know that isn't really the best description) That is one of my favorite sides to a dish with meat.

It's rare that anyone eats raw onions. I don't think I've come across anyone who likes them (unless they're pickled or something).

You gotta be kidding.  Very few people hate cooked onions, 'though they may not know it.

I cook onions in or with:

    Roast beef, with roasted carrot/potato/onion

    Steak -- with sautéed onions

The baked potato is stuffed with sautéed onion and sour cream

    Beef stew, lots of onion

    Beef Stroganoff, lots of onion

    Cornish Pasty, has onion

Bell Peppers, stuffed with beef, rice, tomato and onion

    Cottage pie, uses onion

    Meat loaf, mine uses onion

Hamburger, can use raw or sautéed onion

Patty melt, gotta use sautéed onion

Cabbage Rolls, the exact stuff inside the above bell pepper

    Jaegerschnitzel, has onion

Pork chops on a french onion sauce

Pork chops with rice, includes celery and onion

Pork shoulder & sauerkraut, also has onion

    Chicken Cacciatore, more onion

Chicken pot pie, has onion in

    Chicken Alfredo, yep, onion

    Chicken Marsala, more onion

Skillet, bell pepper, potato, onion, leftover meat of choice

    And even Jambalaya uses onion.

Sautéed onions are great with a steak or on a hamburger.
