  • It's a Canadian chain that happens to have locations in America. Named after former Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tim Horton who started a coffee and donut place and grew it into an empire.

As of 2015, Canadian-based Tim Horton's sold to a Brazilian restaurant group whose biggest holding is Burger King. Their agreement ensured at least 30% of Tim Horton's executive group would remain Canadian.

As of June 30, 2013, Tim Hortons has 4,304 restaurants, including 3,802 in Canada, 807 in the United States, 29 in the Middle East, and 25 in the UK.

It started in Canada, but it's now owned by a big conglomerate (Restaurant Brands Incorporated) which is majority owned by a Brazilian investment firm.

There are locations in the US and plans to expand into China.
