“A trap is only a trap if you don't know about it. If you know about it, it's a challenge.” ― China Miéville, King Rat?

whether referring to catching animals or trying to trick a person, the meaning is similar. If a rabbit accidentally sets off a hunter's trap, he's captured. But, if the rabbit sees the trap and can figure a way to get around it, he won't get caught.

The same goes for tricking people. Someone trying to find out how old you are might ask a trick question, such as "What was your favorite band in high school? If you answer truthfully, you've fallen for the trick. However, if you realize it's a trick, you can avoid giving them information by replying with something like "I really wasn't that much into music back then." You have avoided the trap, just like the rabbit.
