When someone refers to or google searchs the Congo why does everyone assume your talking about the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ?

    Because there is a big Congo and the little Congo nobody hears about. Do not go to either. Republic of the Congo had a government minister a few years ago who was happy to publicly defend the practice of cannibalism.

    The former Belgian Congo over time has been in the news a lot more than the Republic of the Congo (Congo Brazzaville).

    Because few people know about the river or the rainforest. Plus the first things you see on a google search is the websites who have paid google to show their websites first. the way the do that is by giving google specific keywords. "Congo" is a better keyword than "Democratic Republic of Congo", and since most websites talk about the country, these are shown first.
