It does definitely after about five days without water.

Most definitely. Early stages of kidney failure can be reversed simply by increasing the water intake - this flushes out the toxins that cause the trouble, and it's because of maintaining a water deficiency that there isn't enough water to do this as a normal function.

Over a period of time yes but one or two days of being dehydrated wont cause kidney failure - personally I have to drink lots of water as I am just getting over a bladder/kidney operation due to kidney stones and sepsis.
