No. It was not wrong for Ireland.  It gave the Irish their own Parliament again and control of their land and laws. Eire was officially neutral in World War II and, aside from the Troubles, has flourished ever since its independence.

What was and is wrong is the Catholic vs Protestant strife that has been tearing apart the island since at least Elizabeth I's reign. (Did you know that Anne Boleyn's father claimed the Irish earldom of Ormond through his mother, the elder daughter of the previous earl? The English had suzerainty over Ireland - at least the northern part - long before Henry VIII. The Irish Butlers (Ormond) and Fitzgeralds (Kildare) were deputies for the English.)  The Plantations and William of Orange were just two attempts to make Ireland docile and Protestant.

Well they think it was right for them. But Ireland was a bit of a basket case economically throughout the 20th century, compared to the UK

Partitioning by the Irish Not the British the people of Northern Ireland wanted to remain British

That's such a ridiculous question, obviously it wasn't since Ireland is independent. Trust me, if Northern Ireland people want to identify as Irish then they will. Similarly if Unionists want to identify as British then they will. The northern Ireland people want the perks of both countries. If they had to rule themselves they would not be able.

The British would never allow a large block of Catholic voters into their political system and the Irish had no intentions of giving up Catholicism. It's part of the Irish identity. So it's either treat the Irish as second class citizens or separation.

Balkanization is rarely good for any country. Combining resources is best, along with tolerating differences.
