Is war effective against terrorism, or are we funding deadly missions for nothing?

I think bombing campaigns would be far more effective than invasions.

Give the terrorists a little terror of their own to deal with.

Invasions are costly in terms of both money and lives, and it's very difficult to fight against a guerrilla army that blends in with (and is often assisted by, voluntarily or not) the plain old citizens we are supposedly "fighting to liberate."

The concept of terrorism is only useful to the rich and powerful. War is, in a way, terrorism, as it's the pursuit of political goals by violent means, though by overt state agents. On the whole, an eye for an eye tends to leave the world blind.

War is terrorism.  It's just a different brand.
