(x₁, y₁) = (1, 4)

(x₂, y₂) = (3, -2)

m = slope

= rise / run

= (change in y) / (change in x)

= (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

= (-2 - 4) / (3 - 1)

= -6 / 2

= -3

Use that slope and either of the given points in the point-slope form of an equation for a line. I'll use point (x₁, y₁) = (1, 4) :

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

y - 4 = -3(x - 1)

y - 4 = -3x + 3

y = -3x + 7
