It seems that 12 months after a president is elected, the next elections have already begun. Should POTUS be elected for a 6 year term?

Gawd no. But we do need to put some limits on the nonstop campaign season because it's paralyzed our government. This is where the Parliamentary system holds certain advantages.

NO... and Congress and representatives should have the same term limits as the potus does.  There should be NO CAREER POLITICIANS.

    No.

One year term with the option of re-election 2nd term of 7 years...or elected and in power till the populace overthrows the ''Leader'' by mass mailing of fecal matter to said individual leader.

It would certainly give the damn voters a break, that's for sure.

I would totally support the idea.

The key word in your question is "seems".  Politicians give a lot of speeches and attend a lot of party fundraisers and similar events.  If you want to interpret all of that as campaigning for re-election, you can do so; but it's pretty much just what they do.

That would be  a step in the right direction.  But the USA is doomed to mediocrity regardless if that is done or not

I don't think it's like that, I just think Trump knows he needs to get his rallies going now or else no one will vote for him.

No. MOST sitting Presidents enjoy a "honeymoon" period when they are first elected so they can get their staff organized and follow through with some of their campaign promises. Trump didn't get this break before the Socialist Democrats started pounding on him. They were trying to impeach him BEFORE he actually took office. Three years later and MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars wasted and they STILL can't PROVE that Trump did anything wrong.

No.  This is what is called the 'Permanent Campaign'.  It's a strategy and term started by Bill Clinton and his team.  Everyone since has largely adopted it.  Extend the term to six years and you'll get a six year campaign.

    Four years is about right.

Should campaigning be limited to the last 12 months?

You could never enforce that. You cant tell someone to stop doing TV interviews and rallies.
