Why is research important in the study of zoology in terms of social, economical, and environmental perspective?

One could write a book to answer that question, but maybe the simplest approach is to give one example in each of the three categories.
For instance, a social objective that is promoted by zoological research is better health for humans, and we can effectively use smaller mammals to test out medications.
An economic objective that is promoted by zoological research is to detect and cure diseases of bovine animals.
An environmental objective that is promoted by zoological research is to understand the response of corals to warming seas.
