Does honeydew melon have anything to do with honey?
- Lib.rare.ianLv 73 weeks agoBest Answer
Not exactly. When a honeydew melon is fully ripe it exudes a sweet sticky moisture on the surface of the melon, which is referred to as "honeydew". By the time melons get to your grocery store these days, the surface stickiness has usually been washed away, if it was ever allowed to develop in the first place.

It just kind of smells/tastes like honey, if it's ripe.

No. It is a cross between a American Canalope & the middle East musk mellon. By cross breading them you have a honey dew mellon

I dont think so, but when your'e buying them, you test if their ripe by their smell, which smells quite sweet [maybe like honey?].
And they used to be served [in slices] in some restaurants, with some ham & a little honey as a starter.

A honeydew melon is called a honeydew melon because it's sweet like honey.

Yes bees live in the mellon and lay their honey. It mixes with the melon dew to form honeydew melons.

No, they don't. The honey in honeydew may refer to the sweetness of the melon, and the similarity in flavour to honey.
