# Question: design circuit?

4. You have several 1KΩ and 6KΩ resistors. You are required to design a circuit using four resistors and a 5V power supply to provide 2V at the outputs. Note: The output will be taken across the resistor(s).

If two 6K resistors are connected in parallel the result is 3K.

If a series string is connected :

5v, 3K, 1K, 1K, Ground. The connection between 3K and 1K will be 2 volts.

The loose end here is the current of the load, if there is a load.

Or is this just a simple voltage divider and the voltage divider is the load?

There are many ways. Besides the 6||6 and 1+1 divider, there is also

1 and 1||(1+1) ie 1K and 666.6.

or 6 and 6||12 (ie 6 and 4),

or 1.5 and 1 ( ie 1+1||1 and 1), etc.

You have 5v and you want to drop 3v leaving 2v.  Two 6k's in parallel = 3kΩ and two 1k's in series = 2kΩ. You connect to 6k's in parallel and connect those to 2 1k's in series across the 5v and there are 2v's across the 2 1k's

When faced with a problem like this (which occurs in real design), normalize your resistor values.

If you make the lower resistor (the one with 2V across it) 1 ohm, then the upper resistor will be 1.5 ohms. With this in mind, you can solve this problem in your head (hint: multiply your normalized resistors by 2).

VERY SIMPLE TO SOLVE IT.....

PARALLEL TWO 6K TO MADE 3K, AND THEN SERIES WITH TWO 1K. APPLY 5V TO THIS VOLTAGE DIVIDER CIRCUIT. 2V IS OBTAINED BETWEEN 2K.
