Let your parents decide if she is ready for spicy foods or not.

She's not your child so all this would have to be done in conjunction with her actual parents. But 16 months isn't too young to try a tiny bit of something spicy. Chances are she won't like it anyway. Then you'd have to monitor her bowel habits to make sure there are no ill effects. If she's fine and likes spicy food and her tummy can handle it then she start start eating what the rest of the family eats.

If your family eats a lot of spicy food, why hasn't she had any before now? That's actually unusual. Normally a 16 month old would have been eating with the family (although perhaps not truly extremely spicy food) a long time already.

My kids both had their first mildly spicy food around 10 months or so.

Having said that, you shouldn't let her try anything. That's up to your parents.

It would be up to your parents to decide if they give the child the spicy foods or not.
