Why can't China accept democracy and freedoms as Hongkongers or Taiwanese people do?
Why can't China move away from being a one-party state dictatorship and accept democracy and freedoms?

mainland china has a different history and culture. Their government has a much higher approval rating than the US president in America. it's about the willingness of those governed. It does not always have to be democracy.

For the same reason that Republicans would like to get rid of the Democratic party and vice versa.

The people in power do not want to. It is just that simple.

Quite simply they don't want to (and don't have to because they have a strong enough military and are not afraid to use it). The rest of China is controlled through indoctrination and propaganda to such a degree that they don't have sufficient will to oppose oppression like the Hong Kongers do.

Democracy is a front which lies to get in only to change it's prospectus.
