Do hostels have private bedrooms?

So hostels are for groups of travelers who usually share a sleeping space, is it at least a semi common thing for hostels to have private bedrooms or no?

The private bedrooms (if any) tend to be family rooms typically able to sleep 6 people, rather than a cozy room for 2.

Some do, some don't. Usually their website will list the different kinds of rooms available, and of course the fewer people in the room, the more expensive it will be.

If the website of the one you're planning to stay in doesn't make it clear, just pick up the phone and ASK.

Some offer single / double / twin rooms in addition to dormitories. They obviously cost more than beds in shared rooms.

No. It is CHEAP (or no expense) housing for overnight, not a hotel.

Usually at best you have a locker, otherwise it is called dormitory space.

lines of cots in a single room, as many as 50 people.

You are getting Bed Space, that is all.

If you sleep too deeply, you will be robbed (burgled).

how about just calling the ones you're interested in, they may not all be the same !

Some may, but typically not. I have not been in them all, and all the ones I have been in have shared sleeping facilities.
