The USA is the number one economy in the whole world. It also offers opportunity that is missing in many other countries and it's called the American Dream. It was the best country in the world and still is.

Probably most Western countries are desirable to live in. Though, the US still has 2 million new immigrants coming here each & every year. They must figure the US is a desirable place to live??

You need to define "best". We have the most gun deaths, rank in the 30s in scientific literacy, and do poorly with regard to infant mortality and mortality in general. We're also the only industrialized nation where most bankruptcies are caused but a medical issue. America is great in many ways, but pointing out our failings isn't unpatriotic. It's necessary.

    "best country" by what criteria?

It is a subjective measure. United Nations researchers and analyzers look at Human Development Criteria and then consider inequality and skew within a country

    Scores

    http://hdr.undp.org/en/composite/IHDI

    Reports

If "Best Country" measures are long and healthy lives, pursuit and distribution of knowledge and education, and standard of living, then USA is about #13 by averages and about 25th or so if considering the inequalities and skew of wealth. 12 countries of higher human Development

    1,Norway,0.953,0.876 // 2,Switzerland,0.944,0.871 // 3,Australia,0.939,0.861 // 4,Ireland,0.938,0.854

    5,Germany,0.936,0.861 // 6,Iceland,0.935,0.878 // 7,HongKong China (SAR),0.933,0.809

    7,Sweden,0.933,0.864 // 9,Singapore,0.932,0.816 // 10,Netherlands,0.931,0.857

    11,Denmark,0.929,0.860 // 12,Canada,0.926,0.852

    13,United,States,0.924,0.797

    14,United Kingdom,0.922,0.835 // 15,Finland,0.920,0.868 // 16,New Zealand,0.917,0.846

    17,Belgium,0.916,0.836 // 17,Liechtenstein,0.916,? // 19,Japan,0.909,0.876

    20,Austria,0.908,0.835 // 21,Luxembourg,0.904,0.811 // 24,France,0.901,0.808

    25,Slovenia,0.896,0.846 // 27,Czechia,0.888,0.840 // 29,Malta,0.878,0.805

    38,Slovakia,0.855,0.797
