The Labor Department reports that payrolls increased 164,000 during July, just 1,000 below the 165,000 Dow Jones forecast.

Wages increased 3.2% year over year, topping expectations by one-tenth of a percentage point. Average weekly hours edged lower to 34.3.

The total labor force came in at a record-high 163.4 million.

Along with that, a broader measure of unemployment that accounts for discouraged workers and the underemployed, sometimes called the "real" unemployment rate, dropped to 7%, its lowest since December 2000.

While the numbers reflected a jobs market that continues to edge to full employment, the data also showed that companies are continuing to hire despite persistent fears of a broader economic slowdown.

Many of the jobs are in the trades. For instance, the trucking industry is desperate for trained drivers who can typically make upwards to $70K a year. Plumbers earned an average salary of $57,070 in 2017. Comparable jobs earned the following average salary in 2017: Electricians made $57,910, Carpenters made $49,630, Insulation Contractors made $45,090, and Construction Workers made $38,890. AND all with virtually little or no student debt.

The government didn't create the new jobs. It's a survey the Bureau of Labor Statistics send out to employers to sample and extrapolate job creation and loss. BLS just reports the results of the survey.

As to where they are? All OVER the place, dude. My job has been desperately looking for qualified applicants and can't find any. We pretty much offer a job to every qualified applicant that comes to us because we're in no position to be picky.
