Is it ever acceptable to wear white after Labor Day?

    Yes. That is an old wives' take. People can wear any color anytime they want now.

    I always thought it was only about white shoes.

    Obviously the rule doesn't apply if you live in the tropics.

    That hasn't been a rule since years began with number 19__. And the old fashioned rule was no white SHOES or PURSES only. It was never ever a blanket ban on all things white. White shirts are always a wardrobe classic no matter what time of year, white snow boots are super cute and cozy and white winter coats are chic and trendy and white jeans with a chunky winter sweater is warm and comforting. . White is a an all year neutral color that should be in everyone's wardrobe. Fashion is now about wearing what's appropriate for the occasion and appropriate for the weather so if it's September 15 and hot as heck wear your white summer clothes because wearing woolens and warm things when it's hot looks far worse.

    That rule doesn’t apply in Florida, or other warm climate areas. I don’t know that anyone actually follows that rule anymore. If you want to wear a white dress or pants in winter, then do so.
