Is it usual to have to replace a cellphone every 6 months?
Any phone I get never lasts over 6 months.

No. Most phone contracts back in the day were for 2 years, so the expectation is that the phone would last that long at least.

My cell is from 2008, it will be 11 years old this July and inside the filthy white otter box that it is in it is pristine. I had the kid who handled the sale put it into the otter box for me, I would not handle it at all til it was protected. Good thing too, I dropped it in the toilet that night, in the water dish at the dog park twice the first week I had it. It has been dropped, skittered across asphalt, stepped on, more times than I can count. I will NEVER have a cell that isn’t protected by an otter box.
On the other hand, I have a friend who kills her cell phone every year or so. She’s rich so ... whatever. I’m thrilled to have a cell that has lasted this long.
