Apply, wait 3 days, call and ask to check on the status of your application.
Sometimes you will immediately be asked to come in for an interview, more often, you’ll be told they’ll be reviewing applications and calling people later on.
If you don’t immediately get an interview, wait another week, and call again.
Still no interview? Call again in another few days or so.
Keep bugging them (with at least 3-5 days in between calls).
It’s called persistence, it’s how I’ve gotten a few jobs.
Otherwise, you’re just one of hundreds or even thousands of names on a screen.
If you don’t take the initiative and reach out to them, they may never even see your application to application tracking systems that automatically filter applications out for not containing exact keywords.
Honestly, I think someone who’s never worked before (even at 21 like I was) has a better chance of getting hired than someone with multiple jobs that lasted just a couple or few months (ALSO me now).
