To start off, your answer would be
Now here's how to show how to get that:
First of all, you need to understand the values that each unit is in comparison of the others. These rules apply:
1 dm (deci meter) = 10cm
1 m = 100cm
deca meter= 10m (1000cm)
hecto meter = 100m (10 000cm)
1km = 1000m ( 100 000cm)
The easy way to think about it is that the amount of cm that fit into a km, is how much you divide by. If you were going km to cm, it would be multiplication. So because there are 100 000 cm in a km, you would divide 93 256 by 100 000 to get .93256 km.
There is a way to visualize how to do simple conversions by using a conversion staircase. As long as you know the order in which the values are ( Which are worth more e.g km is longer than a m), you can make one yourself. (look up conversion staircase in images and you can find one there too.) The way to do this would be to first draw out the side profile of a staircase, with the top step on the left. Then, you would place the units in on each step, in order of their values. In your case, you only need cm, dm, m, and km. Therefore the bottom step would have cm, the second step up would have dm, the third step up would have m, and the fourth step would have deka meters, the fifth step up would have hecto meters and the last step would have km. Now you would isolate the two units you are using and trying to find ( in your case cm and km). You would them find how many steps there are to the desired unit. ( do not count the original unit, cm). There should be 5 steps. Now if you went left on the staircase, you would be moving the decimal to the left. (dividing). And vise versa with the right side. So for this instance you are multiplying. The number of steps, is the amount of 0's you divide by. So in this case you would divide by 100 000. (Notice the 5 0's). You may also notice that there are 100 000 cm in a km, so it now all makes sense. For you, 93 256 cm divided by 100 000 is
.93256km. YAY now you have your answer.
Hope this helps ;)
