I went with the iPhone X because the 8 Plus was out of stock at my Verizon store. I could have waited a week but my old Galaxy phone was on it's last legs and I wasn't sure if it would make another week.
I have NO, and I mean Zero regrets getting the iPhone X. The screen is going to be sharper and the colors will look better. What I love about my iPhone X is Face recognition. Now I don't have to hold my thumb on a button for 2 or 3 seconds or enter a password when it doesn't work. The iPhone 8 Plus is a bit bigger even though the screen size is roughly the same as the iPhone X. The specs say the iPhone X is bigger but the very top of the screen with the notch for the call speaker isn't really usable. If you have smaller hands or if you would find the size of the 8 Plus to be an inconvenience then look at the iPhone X. The iPhone X is physically the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S7.
The reason i intended on getting the 8 Plus wasn't only the price but it's battery life is supposed to be a little bit better than the iPhone X. If you have to extra $200 then I doubt that you will regret getting the X. I love mine but I love how reliable it is and how well it functions. I haven't charged my phone in 2 days and it's still at 61% battery life , which is impossible with any Android phone I've used in the past. I did have it in low-battery mode for 12 hours but when it was in that mode it functioned well.
Sadly I can't compare the digitizer (touch screen function) of the iPhone X to the iPhone 8 Plus. My iPhone X is way more responsive and there is less input lag than there was on my old Galaxy phones. I've been using Galaxy phones for almost 5 years and even the best one I had which was the Note 3 doesn't begin to stack up to the iPhone X.
When you buy these phones at Verizon, you do have the option to put a down payment on them. All I did to compensate is put a bigger down payment on the iPhone X. If you go to Best Buy to get the phone then they will not allow you to put a down payment on the phone. You would have to work out the details with your phone carrier.
There are some differences between the 8 Plus and X, but for the most part they're the same. Both have the same 6-core CPU, 3gb of system RAM, and start out with 64gb of storage.
-The screen on the X is an OLED display with a higher screen resolution. The 8 Plus is 1080p and the iPhone X is 1125p
iphone 8 plus -401 ppi density vs. IPhone X -458 ppi density.
If you don't need the Face recognition, you have big hands, and you're not a screen Nazi then get the iPhone 8 plus. If you have smaller hands and you want the best looking display then get the X, if you're wiling to pay the extra $200
