The Philippines is Asia, geologically, geographically and politically.
It sits on at least two plate segments of the earth's lithosphere separate from the Pacific plate. Theoretically, in prehistoric times, the Philippine islands were interconnected to each other and to mainland Asia by land bridges allowing movement of people from one region to another. Even without land bridges, early migrations were done with relatively small sized boats from neighboring lands to another. Looking at the map, you'd easily see how close the Philippines is to Asia. You don't have to dig deep to realize that the culture of the Philippines is similar to it's south east Asian neighbors. The Philippines is also a founding member of the Association of SouthEast Asian nations. Finally, even if we savor sweet potatoes, we eat them only for snacks. Our main staple is rice.
