Would God's existence be pointless if God had not created humans?

Christians claim that God is perfect and has no needs or wants but in the same breath also claim that God created us for His glory or because He wanted a family to share His love. Others say that it's just God's nature to create and He can't help Himself. So which one is it: 1) Did God indeed have plenty to do before He created humans? Or, 2) Was God's existence pointless before He created humans.

I would think that a God powerful enough to create the universe would not be concerned with love or obedience from puny humans and could care less about having a family. If you have the power to create sentient life why would you care whether or not someone bowed down to you and told you how great you were? I don't understand why humans try so hard to anthropomorphize God.
