Is it illegal to buy m rated games as a minor?

I want ac3 but the people at GameStop won't let me buy it. I was wondering if it is legal to buy it and then what stores I could buy it at

Also I NEED to buy it myself

The ESRB does not have any legal standing.

It is not illegal to sell to a minor, however a game retailer won't. The video game companies basically govern themselves with the ESRB and they will not blow that to sell to a minor. To much bad press and headaches from parent groups should a company sell to a game intended for adult to be sold to a minor. That would just be welcoming a chance for governmental oversight and compromise the idea that video games are free speech.

Some places allow you to be 17. Since if you look at the rating. 17+ that means, its okay. But then again, some places are strict. I am a GameStop employee and we allow people who are 17. But if your younger than that it may be difficult assassin's creed 3 is a great game and I would go to all means to get it if I was you, but still if you don't have someone that is atleast 17, it is going to be a hard game to grab. Sorry buddy If I could I would get it for ya.

Nobody will sell you the game if you are not 17 years old. You're best best is to convince an adult to buy it for you. Or see if an older sibling or a friend's older sibling will buy it if you give them the money.

It isn't the best game out there.. you can get a better deal for the money.

It actually isn't directly, as in there are no laws against it, but stores sign agreements with game publishers that they won't sell M rated games to minors, and the publishers sign agreements with the ESRB board which made the ratings to begin with.

In short, you aren't getting that game without someone at risk of getting in trouble.

I'm sixteen and Walmart employees don't let me buy it too. Of course It's illegal and you need your parent or guardian to guarantee for you but for me I think it shouldn't be illegal. There are no problems if you play any kind of games.

Ummmm lets see it says m for 18 n up just have somebody if age buy it for u or just wait till u are of age or buy it online they never check ur age

yes it is.

when i was a minor, i asked strangers at the mall, that i would pay him/her if they bought me a rated m game, it worked most of the time. i gave them 5 or 10 bucks.

It's illegal for them to sell it to you. So no, you can't buy it.
