loafers and what to wear with them for a more casual/intelligent look *experimenting*?

I'm a 17 year old guy and i am going on a business/entrepreneurship class/ trip in NY. I kinda want to take this opportunity to start wearing loafers to give my wardrobe a wider style range and to look. the thing is, with all my styles i go for a laid back more casual look while still looking fresh. Now, i really want to start wearing loafers but i have noooo experience with them nor does my father (he doesn't really like them). i was wondering if anyone could help me out with this like tassel or no tassel, lights and dark (i don't really like the look of black loafers so i guess i mean anything from the liight brown to more of a dark brown), which brand has a better look (please no $400 Prada or Gucci) but i do want a nice name brand like Ralph Lauren or I've also heard of Sperry's? idk.. I'm new to this side of style. also i have been wondering since there might be casual chill moments when we are allowed to go out and relax, could loafers be worn with a pair of khaki skinny jeans? almost exactly like these here:

or could they be worn with khaki cargo shorts but not the super military ones where you could store some 10+ guns in the pockets like these:

and also what kind of shirts to wear with loafers like a plain T-shirt, V-neck, plaid shirt like this one:

(The lake placid choice in the default texture shown)

http://www.abercrombie.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servl...

also i am black with a dark skin tone so i need some pointers for colors that compliment my skin tone in this dressier look.

Thanks so much, i know i asked for a lot but I'm a newbie moving into new style territory so please help me out.. don't worry about your answer being too long, i need all the schooling i can get!!

THAT is alot of question!---but good for you dude!---loafers are a great way to show a little more mature and advanced style choice. Loafers come in a lot of different styles and can go anywhere from super casual to very dressy. And Sperry's are probably one of the classiest shoes you can wear.

My suggestion on a good, inexpensive, basic loafer would be this---- http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/crosssells/shoes/w... ----NunnBush makes a nice shoe---and these are styled decent enough that you can go from a business meeting to a casual day out.

I would also suggest this basic pair of Sperry Topsiders--- http://www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController... --- this is THE Sperry to own and is gives that traditional prep style. They are great for business casual looks and go great with jeans or cargo shorts. Only rule is, you NEVER wear sox with Sperry Topsiders.

As far as the rest of your questions go--- I would never wear skinny jeans with either of these shoes. For the loafers you can wear dress pants, blue jeans (dark wash--no holes), traditional khakis, and longer looser cut dressy shorts. --- For the Sperry's traditional khaki's, blue jeans (same as above), and most shorts (no gym shorts or bb shorts)

As far as shirts goes, it depends on the pants. Dress pants and loafers need a decent polo or a button up dress shirt. Jeans and loafers you can go with a polo, a casual buttun up (like the plaid one) or even a nice tee ---plain or v neck.

The Sperry's are a little more casual so almost anything goes with them. A classic look is Sperry's, blue jeans and a white tee. Throw an oxford shirt on, leave it unbuttoned and you have one of the hottest prep looks going. Another good look is Sperry's, khaki shorts (cargo or not) and a white or soft pink polo. --(yes real men wear pink)

OK---so colors that compliment your skin tone. --- you are lucky alot of great colors look good on you. Most shades of yellow, orange, and pink. Also the brighter shades of green and blue. More conservative colors would be most shades of tan, crisp white, peach all play well on darker skinned black men. ----stay away from reds, dark browns, and black---with your skin tone it might be too dark, and can make you look unfriendly.

I hope some of this helps. ---here's my last couple tips---buy a decent leather belt that matches your loafers, for when you want to dress the look up----don't wear alot of jewelry or accessories. -- All you really need is a decent watch --- nothing too big, nothing plastic, no metal bands---and if you wear other jewelry ---rings, earrings, necklaces----remember to keep it small, keep it simple, and only wear one item at a time

    Good luck!----I hope this helps!
