Why not ask potential customers, get a student (or better still 2 students) outside the shop with a clip board and a collection of questionnaires. Get them to ask people what they thought of the shop, the window display, the goods on show, the prices of those goods. They are the people who are not coming in so they are the best people to ask why they are not. Then take some action based on the result of the surveys. To get people to give up their time to respond to the request for a few moments of their time, offer s prize draw to all respondents, either of cash or of a suitable item from your stock.
Ask yourself several questions such as:-
Is the shop in the right location to get a good passing trade?
Have you advertised in the local press or free papers to attract customers?
Are your goods for sale attractive or practical?
Does everyone need or want what you are selling?
Have you targeted advertising at the sector of the public that you believe your goods will appeal most to?
Are you in competition with another shop in your area?
Are you offering better quality or prices to your potential customers?
Your honest answers to the above questions should put you on the right path to success once you have made the necessary changes. Good luck.
