More information is needed, but as a general rule I don't suggest anything smaller than 5000 watts. This will allow operation of small kitchen appliances for cooking, furnace or some electric heat, plenty of lighting, and so on. I use a 5500 watt generator for backup power in my home.

Read through my home generator page for added information.

You need to find the amount of wattage your house uses for electrical devices. If you are planning on using a generator for powering the whole house, you also need a switch that seperates the generator from the electric companies line. Unless you plan on running a bunch of extension cords to the generator.

It depends on how many electric appliances you have, like heaters, water heaters, stove, etc., not the # of bedrooms.

45 KW unit will handle the entire house.
