• Should I let my 17 yrs old daughter fly to Texas by herself?

Best answer: Not without know the circumstances in which she is going. Is she visiting a relative? Other parent (if you're divorced)? A childhood friend who moved away? Church/school trip? I would say yes you should. But if she is going to meet a total stranger, than no. She cant rent a hotel can't rent a car.

Everyone on board the plane hates the idiots who try to cram an overweight, oversize bag into the overhead lockers. Don't do it. The cabin crew will insist you go back and check it in and that delays the flight.

You can book one-way flights although some countries prefer it if you have a ticket out when you arrive. Check the rules with the country you are visiting.

Some countries require you to get a visa to visit them. Check the rules. You can usually get visas online but make sure you do.

Booking flights online is easy. Shop around. Look at different airlines and different times of day. There is a great deal of variation in prices for flights. If you are travelling with a budget airline, you have to pay on top of the fare for things like baggage and food and drinks. Add those costs to the airfare to make a fair comparison with other airlines.

Contact hotels directly to make bookings. It is, however, worth looking at hotel booking sites to get an idea of prices. Sometimes the sites have better offers than the hotel tells you over the phone. If so ask the hotel if they can match the lower price.

Don't get a taxi from the airport, it will cost a fortune. Most airports are served by trains and buses or have shuttle buses to take you to hotels. Organise it when you get to your destination airport.

  • First time flying anxiety?

Best answer: You are probably making yourself more anxious by posting the question. Bluebell is right, flying is safe, safer than driving n fact, and beats a 12 drive any day. Ignore the negative views, hey are just trying to be clever, when clearly they aren't.

  • How come when you're a passenger on an airplane, it doesn't seem like your going that fast, even if your going over 500 MPH?

Best answer: You’re going about 67,000 miles per hour as you stand on the surface of the earth. Of course, since it’s relative to mostly empty space, we have no perception of it.

The perception of speed in a vehicle is only by how fast the angle of something stationary changes or by vibration of the medium you are moving through.

Planes travel high above the earth, so the angles don’t change very much. You can keep your eye fixed on a town for a minute in a plane while you can see a tree on the side of the road for only a few seconds. In orbit it’s the same thing... you’re going 17,500 mph, but you’re 150 or so miles up.

Another interesting thing is how we perceive speed of a vehicle passing. It’s based on how many “lengths” it moves for a specific time. Thus a jumbo jet looks like its flying very slowly, but a slower commuter prop plane looks like its going faster.

  • Are commercial airlines allowed to fly over the north and south poles?

Are commercial airlines allowed to fly over the north and south poles?

Best answer: Until recently, regulators have insisted that twin-engine jets must always be within three hours of a suitable place to land. This is because the failure of one engine on such a plane is potentially far more serious than for one with three or four. However, commercial flights do fly over the North Pole.
