• Why is it that when I hit the edit button, the only option it gives is to make it anonymous?

My answer has some typos in it that I want to correct, but I cannot, since the "edit" button is a fraud.

    Best answer: Points Table

To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. The points table below summarizes the point values for different actions. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.)

Levels are another way to keep track of how active you (and others) have been. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level. Yahoo Answers recognizes your level achievements with our special brand of thank you's

And finally, as you attain higher levels, you'll also be able to contribute more to Yahoo Answers - you can ask, answer and rate more frequently.

  • If you have a bunch of accounts, will Yahoo know about it?

Best answer: You can have "a bunch of accounts" and they won't care UNLESS they interact with each other. Ask a question with Account #1, answer with Account #2, award "Best Answer" with Account #1 -- you might get away with it once or twice, but Yahoo knows who you are and could close ALL of your accounts. show more

  • If you have two accounts and you use "anonymous" to have them interact, will Yahoo know?

Best answer: Yes Yahoo knows who account it is. Doesn't matter if you are anonymous or not. If the account is reported to Yahoo they can take account to suspend that account. Many accounts here have been closed because of this.

Best answer: There are a number of ways that people can tell which account name asked/answered the question - but most of the time the vast majority of people will have no idea if you post anonymously

    1. If your followers set their preferences to be notified when people they are following ask questions, then provided the notification system is working, they will know your account name. So will any asker whose question you answer. This is because you have to first post the question or answer in your account name and THEN change it to anonymous. The email notification is generated between you posting and you editing to anonymous, therefore it bears your account name and not anonymous. OK, the follower/asker on opening the question will only see anonymous, BUT the email gives the game away. Notifications being sent are very erratic at the moment though.

    2. There is a window of opportunity for anyone clicking on your question in the 30 seconds or so before you edit to anonymous, to see the question being asked in your account name.

    3. Sometimes doing a google cache search will show the name that the question is asked in, and not anonymous.

    4. If you make the mistake and comment to replies you receive rather than write updates to the question, and from the wording it is obvious that you are the asker, you will give the game away as all comments are posted and remain in the account name and not anonymous - even if the question is anonymous.

    5. Regular users can sometimes spot idiosyncratic language, phraseology and punctuation that they associate with other regular contributors and can "guess" sometimes who an anonymous poster really is. Doesn't always work of course, but sometimes it does.

Having said all this - the vast majority of people will have no idea who an anonymous poster is.
