  • Should I invest in a set of new golf clubs?

For years I have been golfing with a patchwork set. A few came from a school getting rid of their golf program, a few from goodwill, one or two as gifts... that type of deal. The lengths of the clubs vary, grips are rotting, and so on. I enjoy golfing, but I feel that the variation between my clubs is making it difficult for me to truly learn and improve. However, I don t know if this is just a mental thing, or if it is actually just difficult to learn with inconsistent golf clubs. Recently a local store put a full set of golf clubs on sale for what I think is a fair price for someone still learning the sport. (I am not going to run out and buy a $1000 set of golf clubs when I am learning.) Its a $150 top flite set with a free half hour golf lesson. My question is if this investment will actually make it easier for me to become more consistent at golf, or if I should continue practicing with what I have before upgrading. I will be golfing for the foreseeable future, so this isn t a matter of use. It is strictly whether or not they will make it easier to learn, and thus improve my game.

  • Should Tiger woods Woods retire from golf?

he went from being unbeatable to not being able to beat anyone, I think the more he plays now the more he embarrasses himself, he should go with dignity.

Best answer: There's no set structure/salary because for tax purposes, a caddie is considered an independent contractor. However, knowing a few guys who've worked professionally, here's the setup:
    1) The pro caddie will get a flat fee for the week (negotiated between player and caddie). Typically, around $500-$1200 per week which includes practice rounds, pro-am (if applicable), and any tournament rounds.
    2) A percentage of winnings, if the player makes the cut, tied to the finish. It tops out at 10% for a win which is pretty universal. At this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, the winner gets $1.6 million, so 10% of that would be $160,000. Keep in mind that the caddie has to pay taxes and insurance on that.
    3) Lodging and travel expenses are not paid by the tour so unless the caddie has a sweet deal with the player (some players will pay for their caddie's travel costs but it's uncommon). Which means airfare, ground transportation, and lodging are the responsibility of the caddie (players work the same way, however they are given courtesy cars, so if the player and caddie are staying together they'll often ride to/from the course together).

If your player is in an event it's a 7-day workweek and you can be fired at a moment's notice.

At an event, a caddie will walk the course 1-2 times prior to practice rounds (even if they buy the yardage book) to verify distances and map greens, and be with the player during range sessions, short game sessions and practice rounds. 12-14 hour days are not uncommon.

  • What do you think about custom fitting your golf clubs?

If you have been playing for more than a year, do you think you need to get your clubs custom fitted? Get your swing analyzed and your club reshafted with a pricey aftermarket golf shaft? do you think it is important?
