Can he get in trouble for not paying, even though he lives in another state now? I’d prefer he just have a relationship with her, but since he won’t, I kind of could use the financial support. Thanks.

We got our 14 year old daughter (starts 9th grade in fall) a cell phone at the end of school - we paid for the phone & we pay for the service. We told her up front since we did we would be checking it. In doing so we caught her in a lie and she went somewhere she was not allowed- to a party we had told her should could not go to because it was being held while the parents were away and probably w/o their consent. We grounded her for it for 2 weeks and took the phone away. When we gave it back she immediately changed the password & we can not access it. My husband called the next day and had it shut off- he is not inclined to take any crap. Of course she went ballistic "MY" phone- you can imagine...... Mike and I discussed it and we did make it conditional we could check it, she abused the privilege, it is OUR phone. We told her we would discuss returning it next summer if and only if she has good grades which we later defined as a B average. She is acting like we are the worst parents in the world, but are we right to stick to our guns? She does not really "need" a phone, it is a luxury item. Knowing about that party we are also keeping her on a tight leash.

I don't have a problem with anyone who chooses to be in a same-sex marriage or relationship, because it is their life and that is what they are choosing to do. However, while I do respect their freedom of choice, I am still opposed to the idea of same sex marriage itself. This does not mean that I am close-minded or homophobic or anything like that, but simply that I am opposed to the idea of two people of the same sex who actually choose to get married. It's one thing for them to live together and assume partnership, but marriage is a completely different thing because it essentially cannot be undone most of the time without lengthy and costly divorce proceedings. This in turn means that anyone who chooses a same-sex marriage, would have had to put a lot of serious thought and consideration into it, as is the case with a traditional marriage, and I simply cannot see how anyone among us could bring themselves to become involved in a MARRIAGE of that sort, when perhaps more than anyone they have the freedom to live a life without the comittment of marriage, and would even be looked upon more favorably by many other people for choosing not to get married. Basically I just don't understand why exactly it is such a big deal to people or why people choose to do it when it comes with so much controversy. Frankly I would welcome the opportunity to have a long term, live-in relationship with someone of the opposite sex without being stigmatized for not necessarily being married.

I have been on maternity since September and I have contacted my manager to ask about change of hours due to someone needing to be at home with my daughter, I understand they don’t have to accept my ask to change hours due to business reasons, I was told that it’s not possible to do flexi hours or have set days and times as well as not doing half shifts, so I would only be able to do 8-8,8-2,2-8 so I decided to leave as I need set hours so I can arrange childcare, but as I went to hand all my stuff back I ran into a friend who told me they have employed someone to do 3-8, would I have a case if I wanted to take it further or should I just ignore it?

Best answer: You didn't get a summons. You got a questionaire. The courts use these to assemble a pool of qualified jurors to tap into. The website says you're qualified, so you are in the pool and can be summoned at any time. When you are actually summoned, you must answer it. You can attempt to obtain a deferment, usually by mail and sometimes over the phone. The papers you are sent will explain the deferment process and what you must do.

If you can't get a deferment, then you must appear at the time and place indicated, or you can be held in contempt of court and face possible fines and/or jail time.

If you must report, it doesn't mean you will be called for jury selection. You are available if they need more people. Many times, civil cases, which outnumber criminal cases, are settled before a scheduled trial begins, but a pool of potential jurors must be present for a trial to be scheduled. The first time I served, that's what happened, and we were all excused and went home and that was it. The second time I was called, and that was 14 years later (and 13 years ago), I was called for jury selection and I 'passed' the process and was seated on a jury in a criminal case. Many others were excused by the judge for medical or personal reasons that did not work when they tried to get a deferment through the process, and others were rejected by either side's attorneys. One way that seemed to work was, if you were asked if you were ever a victim of a crime, would you be able to forget about that and look at the evidence and the defendant without bias. People said no and they were sent home.

And remember, it's NOT your "family estate", it's your FATHER'S estate to do with what he wants.

He didn’t serve my mother properly, he claimed he didn’t have a way to contact her to let her know he was taking her to court so he put her name in the LOUISIANA newspapers. The day before court he emailed her “see you in court.” He totally blindsided her. He’s evil and manipulative. We didn’t have to money to fly down to Louisiana to be in court the next day so my mom was now in contempt of court. SOMEHOW, my dad received custody of me and nobody asked me Any questions. I couldn’t represent myself. Nobody under 18 was permitted in the court room. So I had to go live in Louisiana. I had been living there for a year completely miserable. I am so unhappy with my life that I considered killing myself a few times. I break down and have panic atttacks constantly. I’ve been visiting my mom for summer visitation for the past month.

Would this be a crime by going behind the agencies back?
