I understand that it has always been the tradition for the brides family to cover the cost of the wedding. But, it has also always been the tradition for a man to pay on dates, hold the door, etc. Very few young men are chivalrous in this way. Oftentimes, women are expected to pay for their portion of the meal when on dates. Personally, I have paid my half for every date past the very first few. That being said, times have certainly changed, however, I was wondering if expecting the brides family to pay for the wedding is an outdated tradition? I really hate to be cheap in this situation, however, weddings are always very costly (average $40,000) and I come from a family of 6 girls. My parents simply cannot afford it even if we get a great deal and pay half of the average price. I am also worried that the grooms family will be somewhat judgmental if we decide to go the less expensive route and spend what is in our price range. Many of them have not met my family or myself and I don't want to come across as tacky. Yet, I am unsure of whether or not they would be more upset if they found out that my side of the family wasn't able to pick up the entire tab. Would it be terrible to split the cost of the wedding with the grooms family?

We had a small courthouse wedding in NJ on Feb 19, 2016. The invitations were only limited to my husband's mother, step-father, grandparents and 2 friends, as well as my mother and brother. My mother and brother flew in from Jamaica to attend. My husband (fiance at the time) and I occupied 1 bedroom of a 2 bedroom apartment and we had a roommate, so it was not convenient for them to stay with us. However my husbands grandparents live closeby in a small house but definitely more space than we had. His mother lives 1 hr away in a big house. I suggested to my husband that my family stay there. His answer was to let them stay in a hotel. They already spent a lot of money on their flight, why should they spend excess money on a hotel when there are family to stay with? My husband offered to pay the hotel because apparently driving 1 hr away to drop them off was a big hassle to him, so I made it a big deal until in the end, my family ended up staying at his mother's. The deal was to have them stay at the mother until the day of the wedding, then they'd stay in a motel while my husband and I went to a beach house for 2 days. When we returned from the beach house, my husband would drop them off, including me, to NY where my mother has family, and they'd spend the rest of time their until their departure. On top of that, his mother had wrote him a text saying "Are you gonna drop them off to NY? Otherwise they are going to the beach house with you."

So I’m a 26 year old female currently working part time, living with my mother since I was a kid. She’s been physically and emotionally abusive to me for so long but it has gotten worse. Now she wishes death on me, abuses me physically, threatens me all that nasty stuff. She yells at me constantly, she is approaching 50 and I think it’s gotten worse. It’s gotten to the point were even my brother is joining in and saying that I’m mental and how nobody cares about the fact that I’m being abused at home. He locked me out of the house yesterday and she was laughing. I really need help, I want to escape. I have no friends no family I can move in with or talk about this with. Last night she beat me up over something so little, my back hurts and I feel like it’s affecting me emotionally. I have recorded footage of her being abusive to me just in case something goes down. What can I do? Please only serious answers. Thanks

My son is with me majority of the time, he goes with his father 2x a week, sometimes more because I want them to have a bond but I cant keep pushing the fact that his father is aggressive with him away. I was shocked when I found out he even had to be with his father considering his fathers past history wih the law- assault - multiple times. Hes also been diagnosed eith bi polar disorder and was ordered to take anger management classes which he still goes to but unfortunately i see no change. Some weeks hes good with my son, other times I fear what my son goes through or might have to face in his fathers wrath. He gets upset that my son doesnt like him but my son has explained to me and him that its because he yells at him and grabs and hurts his arms when trying to stop him from moving, again my child is 4. He gets seemingly mad for no reason and needs to control my son, any sign of disobedience and he loses it. Is there anything I can do? Its been years and his dad isnt changing, if fear for my son and Im also fearing for my familys life. He owns countless guns and pointed one at my sister who doesn’t like him. Im scared if I go to court and we get full custody his father will come kill us. Im scared his father will hurt him in the middle of an episode. Im lost

My wife and I are having our first children - twins, and once they are born, I will quit my job and become a househusband. We already own our home, mostly thanks to me, since I bought it before we were together and earn more since, so we only need one of us to work, and even though my wife earns less, she insisted it be her. The last month has been really hard, because we hadn't been able to agree on it, but then she left me over it, and I it absolutely wasn't worth losing her over, so I changed my mind and convinced her to come back. We've talked about what we expect of each other now, and it doesn't seem that hard, to look after our children, and do all of the housework, have dinner waiting for her, etc, if I'm honest. We have her parents and my mother willing to look after them almost any time too. It will be weird giving up responsibility for money though, since she wants to control all of that. My biggest concern is that my wife will see me as less than I was, or less than her. She says that's just gender roles and sexism that I've been taught, and that I don't have to worry and she loves me. Will I enjoy looking after children? They're my children so I'm going to love them very much, but I've never done anything like it. I'm reading and learning about children. I'm really looking forward to a more normal sex life after we have children too, which my wife promised she'd put a lot of effort in to, since her pregnancy has ruined it.

And you're over 18... not sure why they'd have such a fit, if they even did?

When we first started off I was madly in love with him, he was my first boyfriend and he was someone I was proud to call mine. I used to worry that he was the one that would leave me, I used to be jealous of other girls and I’d be jealous if he’d text/Snapchat/like any girls stuff. Fast forward 2 years we’ve been living together for officially a year and I’m starting to feel really comfortable with our relationship. I’ve always been a confident girl but 2 years into our relationship I got even more confident(I started modeling) and social. My boyfriend on the other hand became more of an introvert(when we first met it was at a party, he used to go out on the weekends and chill with friends), he stopped hanging out with people(mostly because once he moved off campus he lost the easiness of being able to see his friends when ever he wanted), he became more shy whenever we would go out instead of talking and socializing. I’m the complete opposite, I love the attention on me, I’m super social.

I really hate my parents. I get into a lot of fights with them and sometimes leads me being kicked out if the house. My mom yells at me everyday about not getting awards or finding out that I played videogames without her permission. Just recently, I got in a fight with them because I bought McDonalds without their permission with my money that I earned. That lead to me deciding not to go to disneyworld with them (it was our summer vacation). I was scared if I went, I wouldn't have much fun due to her constant yelling for the smallest things. However, she had already bought the tickets for flight and the parks. When I told her, it turned into a full blown argument (mainly her yelling). Afterwards, she told me that she wasn't going to pay for me and told me to pay her back for the tickets and housing. She took the money that I had earned working at my cousin's restaurant (around $405). Not only that, but she said I had to pay back all of the things she bought that wasn't required by law (including a $5000 violin). She also said that I wasn't allowed to work in my cousin's restauant and I had to find some other job to pay back all of that money. Is this legal? If so, does anyone know any jobs that a 15 year old could have or is willing to offer one. I can't seem to find any. I live in Catonsville Maryland. Thank you for reading and understanding. I hope no one would have to deal with these types of problems with their parents or kids.
