• How much FURNITURE should I store in my unused bedrooms?

I live in a 3 bed / 2 bath house. In aim to help my Central Air system run-best, I am advised to keep furniture all-around my house. Even though I do not use my extra two bedrooms, how much / if STUFF should I store in them?

  • I want to build a desk but I have zero experience. Can anybody give me any tips?

I need (mostly want...sorta need it) a new desk, preferebly next week or so. I was thinking about using a solid door slab and the dimensions I have are 30"x60"x1". Would this sag? If so, how would I prevent that? I want legs 26" tall and strong enough to support it. How should I go about... show more

If so, how would I prevent that? I want legs 26" tall and strong enough to support it. How should I go about attaching the legs to the door? Would it be better to buy legs from Ikea or something?would I need to paint as well as stain it? I know this is a lot of questions but I'm worried I'm going to build a piece of crap. My budget is as low as possible also. Thank you!

  • What are those blankets called where the sheet cover is already sewn into the quilt, so you don't need to buy an actual cover?

I'm sick of quilt covers never fitting right and the quilt underneath bunching up and moving around. I used to have one where the cover was stitched into the blanket and you didn't need a cover and it was so much easier to roll around in! Does anyone know what they're called?

  • Is it highly recommended to not have pets if you have leather furniture?

Our dog is a standard poodle and they train VERY EASILY (although you still have to make the effort) and he obeys very well .. even when we aren't around and cannot catch him in the act.
But then, we understand how dogs think.

As for your leather sofa, if it is real leather, it will hold up better than vinyl that looks like leather, and better than fabric sofas (which will absorb dog-odors more than leather, and end up stinking).
But the simplest is to train your dog that furniture is off limits. Provide a bed, take your puppy to obedience classes, and don't treat it like a human child.

Best answer: Talk to the landlord. See if they are willing to pay for paint and replacing the blinds. If not, ask if YOU can paint and replace the blinds at your own labor and costs ... with a paint color they approve. Most landlords will allow that, if they have control over the color. After all, it increases the value of their property.

I would buy some Spackle and a spatula (not kitchen) to fill in the cracks.
Then paint the apartment with primer and then paint it with an off-white acrylic pain.
Replace the blinds. We never know how long we will be living someplace, so unless we know we are moving out soon, the money is well-spent to make it feel comfortable.
While I don't know the size of the window blinds, I would think you could cover the walls with 1 gallon of primer and one gallon of paint .. or one gallon of combination primer/paint. Plus roller and tray and paint brush. A plastic drop-cloth or an old sheet purchased at Goodwill to protect the floor from paint drips and splatters.
Go to Home Depot or a similar store and price these things out. I would guess less than $200 for everything, max. And you get a total freshening make-over of the interior space.

Buy a couch cover-throw (it will have a thin foam backing, so it doesn't slip or move around when you sit on the couch). Perhaps $50-100 depending. Fitted slip-covers cost more but look better. OR just find a pleasant blanket or fleece blanket and throw that over, if the hole is in the back or the seat.

I would look for furniture online, second-hand. Not upholstered furniture, since you never know if it has bedbugs or not. But hard furniture, like a TV table, like a dresser for your clothing .. an end-table and lamp for your sofa.
    Buy as you can afford.
