Then if need be mix in a spray bottle 3 parts water 1 part vinegar and 1/2 a teaspoon of dish soap. Spray it on the mattress lightly and then use a cloth to wipe it down. Make sure you're not soaking the mattress but only making it lightly damp you don't want the moisture to go into the mattress and mold.

Other helpful products to consider is febreeze or other oder absorbing sprays. You may find a good fabric furniture cleaner as well.

  • What is considered "normal" wear and tear on a room rental and can I hold back a cleaning fee from the security deposit?

Best answer: I tend to agree with your assessment. Some people are just not naturally adept at cleaning. On the other hand, I have heard terrible stories of homeowners going into a rental to clean up between tenants only to find garbage strewn on the floor, feces and urine in places you don't expect, broken cabinets and light fixtures, holes in the drywall, and so on.

I'd say this was just a bachelor who tries to do a basic cleaning job. His parents may never have taught him how to remove the toilet seat to get at crud around it, or get in the shower with a scrubber to remove soap scum build-up. I don't think it would qualify as an excessive mess that would warrant any of the security deposit for damages.

My younger sister and I are in our early 20's. For the time being, we share a bathroom. She has a lot of intricate make up and hair products, which are sprawled everywhere in the bathroom. For the first few months, I would clean the bathroom and organize her daily little messes - a scrap of toilet paper here, a few Bobby pins or toothpaste globs there. One day, on a trip to Miami, she destroyed the bathroom while making herself look pretty, and it was such an intricately big mess that I couldn't clean it. Now, the bathroom is disgusting, and smells horrible. I began to ask her to clean the bathroom a month ago, but her response is always "I'm an adult, I can do what I want, don't tell me what to do." I can't go in that bathroom anymore without gagging. How can I persuade her to clean her own mess???

Now having enough bleach to wash enough loads of whites until 2021 (lol) I need ideas / suggestions of what more to do with all this liquid bleach. I did wash a load of whites when I came home with the first Gallon of bleach. - The first tiny 1/2-cup amt. did work well - until I dropped this bottle! Now I have this (still full) bottle on my cabinet without a cap to close it. This bottle landed [POP!] on the lid - which cracked it. :-( Where else can / should - or do I need to use this (albeit cheap) liquid bleach? With today's weather staying below freezing, doing anything outdoors (while I drain my clotheswash-water directly outdoors) is a bit challenging. Aside from using this bleach to clean / disinfect any surface (which I normally do not plan to need - since I am home alone, with no one else's germs / viruses to fight) where / how else can I use it?
