They are OK, but CPU is weak for gaming in both cases, and doesn't have good CPU upgrading.
    Both are over your $500.

Or, can build your own. On sale today is an i3-8100, sale ending at $110 after rebate. May cost more later.

Alternate is going for a used PC, third gen core i5 or better in minitower with 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Windows 10 already installed, new enough and confirmed to accept a standard power supply and double slot graphics card and upgrade power supply, add graphics card, maybe replace the system fan.
    Maybe this:

add the graphics card. Upgrade power supply if needed

OEM Windows 10 may or may not transfer. The Used PC already has it and an i5-4590 is respectable enough.

  • Computer Question: I found an old hard drive from a PC I owned years ago (2014-ish). How do I view its contents?

It’s a Seagate Barracuda 500Gb. I no longer have the actual PC, I use a Mac now, but I do have an old laptop PC if that helps.

Xbox One you have to pay for Xbox Live Gold to play games online, which is $60 / year retail. though, via bing, Microsoft's search engine, you can earn points to redeem for 12 months of Gold if done correctly. just searching alone will take up to around three months to earn 12 months of Gold.

If you already have a PC or laptop, I would just get an Xbox. especially if there are some games you want to play that you can't play on Windows 10 yet. then get the switched used or wait for the holiday this winter for a discount.

What kind of laptop would be best for this situation? The stronger the better. My current laptop is maybe 3 years old. I appreciate the help!

I purchased a CyberPower Gaming PC from Amazon and it arrived on Friday. After following the instructions on installing the PC and buying the external hardware I was finally ready to download steam and play my first game. Unfortunately, I quickly realized a huge problem and it's that the pc can barely run any game I play. First game I tried was WWE 2K18 and it could barely load the main menu and was operating so slow I couldn't even navigate. When I try to lower settings it completely freezes my game. This was not the performance I expected at the price of $1,200. I read several reviews on the pc and most people seem to be able to play most games on max settings with no problem. I even tested my pc on the "Can I run it" website and it seems to make all the hardware requirements. I'm flabbergasted after spending all this money on a gaming pc and not being able to game! I'm not sure it maybe its something I've done wrong? Am I missing something? Here are my PC specs as a reference: -Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @3.20GHz -RAM: 16.0 GB DDR4 (15.8 GB usable) -System: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor -Hardrive: 1000 GB Flash Memory Solid State -Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Video Card

It's generally better to run them "in sequence" (like CCleaner, THEN Disk Cleanup when CCleaner is done or vice versa) to avoid conflicts.
